I wonder
which of us was older
in our Primeval home?
I am sure
you were the stronger-willed
ready and prepared to begin
Your time on earth,
while I, perhaps, held back
to ponder all of the implications.
I wonder
how we felt, You and I,
to learn it would be me
to come first and parent you
and not the other way around?
I am sure
I rejoiced
that we would be together;
You, a beautiful, gregarious soul
whose radiance shone around and over me .
I wonder
what wisdom we exchanged
as we embraced at our farewells?
I am sure
that I,
with one last appeal for guidance,
shed tears of joy and gratitude
as I walked toward my own brief childhood
and my rendezvous
with yours.

Happy 18th Birthday, sweet Sam. Though it was one month ago today (February 25th) I wanted to get that right of passage recorded on our blog. I love you!
beautiful ... post and young man
