Patriotic Holidays are among my favorite. Today is one of them. Memorial Day. If you come to visit my house you’ll see a few simple decorations spread throughout various rooms.
Did you know that Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day? It was a time set aside to honor those who fought and died in the U.S. Civil War. Participants { nearly 5,000 at the first celebration at Arlington National Cemetery } decorated the graves of the more than 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there.

Here are some ideas to make your Memorial Day more, well, memorable.
Star Medallion decor to hang from your ceilings, banisters or railings.
Cute Seer Sucker Dress for little girls to wear to local parades and other commemorations.
Pause at 3:00pm { local time } with a prayer or moment of silence filled with gratitude.
Chair Covers are so easily adaptable and kids really like to decorate them and place on their own chairs. { Works just as easily with butcher block paper and decorative duct tape. }
Burgers on the grilling menu? For really juicy burgers, here’s a tip from moi: drench patties in tub of ice cold water for about 30 seconds before grilling. Try it and let me know what you think.
Read a classic Memorial Day Speech like this one from Oliver Wendell Holmes. Here’s an excerpt:
“Not long ago I heard a young man ask why people still kept up Memorial Day, and it set me thinking of the answer. Not the answer that you and I should give to each other-not the expression of those feelings that, so long as you live, will make this day sacred to memories of love and grief and heroic youth--but an answer which should command the assent of those who do not share our memories, and in which we of the North and our brethren of the South could join in perfect accord.”
See you Wednesday.
