This is a sampling of what Chase makes himself for an afterschool snack.
Yesterday I watched him create this mouth-filling masterpiece.
The sandwich is made from slices of medium roast beef, black forest ham, maple honey turkey and Colby-jack cheese. He then topped those deli meats with lettuce, onion, mayo, ranch dressing and just a speck of Dijon mustard and layered it all on seasoned French bread.
After unloading two 16 year old male sized hand-fulls of Doritos on the side and swirling chocolate syrup in a cup of cold milk he was ready to devour yet another daily “snack.”
Just enough to tide him over until dinner
Here are some other snacks we plan to try here in the Gish house.
Place a scoop of frozen yogurt between graham cracker squares. Roll the edges in chocolate chips. Freeze until firm. This is really good on days like today when the mercury is +85 degrees.
Just spread any nut butter on wedges of apple, then roll in a favorite granola. We prefer Kashi Cereal.
Melt 1/3 cup butter with 1 tablespoon honey and a pinch of salt. Toss with 12 cups popcorn and 1 cup pecans. Spread on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake 15 minutes at 325 degrees F, tossing. Cool.
